The City of West Kelowna has issued a record-breaking 50% more dwelling permits in 2017 over the 331 permits issued in 2016.

West Kelowna is really growing according to this news release – Record-breaking development issued on Jan 17 with a mixture of types of dwellings permitted, including Carriage Houses, multifamily units, and secondary residences.

Building inspections were also up by approximately 20% and renovations were up by 11% across the city. The large development built by Highstreet Homes between Carrington and Majoros Roads called Carrington Ridge offers 240 pet friendly rental housing units and hopes to be leasing  by this spring. The complex built with quality inclusions like quartz countertops and stainless appliances is hoped to be attractive to the 24 to 39 year old renter, says the developer.

Nancy Henderson, the city’s General Manager of Development Services says “It’s particularly nice to see purpose-built rental housing in Westbank Centre. We hope that increased residents in the area will help existing businesses and encourage new development which will attract new entrepreneurs and businesses,” she says.

Highstreet Homes is also building a 280 unit rental complex in Kelowna on KLO Road opposite Immaculata High School, called Mission Flats

Henderson also says that the number of multifamily units in West Kelowna is on the rise. She also states that she believes this fast-paced growth will continue according to the number of development applications that are still coming through.
